Bombyx, or the silk butterfly of the mulberry tree is the final metamorphosis within the faceted life cycle of the larva, the silk worm. Bombyx is dedicated to the precious silk this creature produces, a revered material fixed at the core of the Jim Thompson brand. Jim Thompson’s Bombyx is a place imbued with ambience, an atmosphere created by the presence and vision of an artist. This artistic venture has been delicately paired with a refined and diverse menu of contemporary Thai cuisine, awaking the palette harmoniously with sight and imagination. It is the relationship between Mr. Jim Thompson, creativity and Thai culture that marks the spirit of Bombyx and the ensuing experience. Art is eternally in a continuous state of flux, making the environment ephemeral and unique. With each new installation Bombyx metamorphoses, while the spirit and physical space remain. In Jim Thompson’s vast world, art and silk are in a perpetual state of evolution.

Most recently Jim Thompson collaborated with Ithipol Thangchalok, a prolific, contemporary, abstract, Thai artist, whose career spans over fifty years, producing 600 works across drawing, printmaking, sculpture and painting. A selection of Ithipol’s dynamic works have been reproduced as a series of beautiful prints, printed onto luxurious Jim Thompson silk for scarves and will be initially showcased and available to purchase at Bombyx and the adjacent Jim Thompson store. The art exhibited at Bombyx will not be limited to painting but will incorporate works of photography, graphic design and a myriad of other contemporary art mediums, making Ithipol’s dynamic portfolio a fitting choice for the first exhibition.
